Full Time Volunteering - Yv's Story

On the CSV Vocal Project in Norfolk, CSV full-time volunteers work alongside volunteers with learning difficulties helping them to help others and develop their own independence. Through supported volunteering, young people with learning difficulties become the givers not the receivers of care.

Yv volunteered full-time with the Vocal project. She says:

“I am glad that I took the chance to join CSV Vocal. It is giving me the chance to do something for other people. I have seen just how independent our service users can get with just a little help. The service users learn all the time, while working and get more integrated in the community.

I think I have already helped to let some of our service users become more independent. I think I have become more self-confident and mature. I have to be the person they can count on and I always have to know what to do. That means me having a lot of responsibility, but I think that is what it is about as well. This experience is definitely worth it, even if there are times when it’s not that easy.

I have already met a lot of people from different countries, different cultures and walks of life which I really enjoy.”
